Goodbye Jupiter In Cancer - A Quick Note
some farewell thoughts on this emo season + secret tickets
As Jupiter prepares to leave Cancer, the whole sky—except Venus, lazing in her poster filled room listening to Cyndi Lauper records and organizing her party dresses—seems to be feeling this goodbye. Mars and Saturn look on uncomfortably while kid brother Mercury retreats to their bedroom in a house that will never feel like home, presumably to listen to sad songs and cry. A lot.
No matter that this is summer in the Northern hemisphere—a time, if you ask Venus, for beach volleyball and endless nights. Mercury will be taking all meals inside and alone for the next four retrograde weeks. Their soul is going through something we “just can’t understand.”
The sky feels like someone’s getting divorced.
This Is No Time To Throw A Festival (But Here We Are)
Tomorrow night, LA Astro Fest kicks off at the Philosophical Research Society with Dr. Ali A Olomi’s lecture, "Once and Future Stars: The Astrology of Today and Tomorrow.”
If I haven’t made it abundantly clear, streaming tickets are available for his talk — meaning you can join us from anywhere in the world.
I recently interviewed Dr. Olomi on the state of astrology—an act that was a purely selfish attempt to get some clarity on topics that’ve been haunting me for some time.
Five Questions with Dr Ali A Olomi
For the uninitiated, Dr. Ali A. Olomi is a historian, astrologer, and translator. His Patreon, where he shares history and translations, among breakdowns of astrological and magic techniques, has attracted a near cult-like following.
Are You In LA?
Four days. A constellation of astrologers. Blah, blah. Even I’m tired of my event copy.
Let’s try something new: this weekend I have the rare pleasure and delight to gather irl with a handful of astrologers and thinkers whose work has shaped my worldview:
Gemini Brett, one of my first mentors, whose work opened the sky to me in Mexico City
Michelle Tea, whose four-week workshop pushed me to grow as a writer
Cameron Allen, whose practice and outlook gives me confidence to use astrology as a way to connect to my body
Rachel Lang, whose work taught me the magic of using planetary hours
I’ll save you the complete list———
This weekend, we’re gathering in one room in Highland Park, Los Angeles to connect over, share stories, and, hopefully, have some fruitful arguments over our shared love of astrology.
I really, truly, want you to be there and understand that the ticket price may be a lot for some of you to swing right now.
This is why I’ve released a limited number of discounted tickets for those who want to join us but may not be able to afford the expense.
If you’re interested in securing one, please reach out to me, and I’ll send you the secret link.
In the meantime…
