The field of astrology does suffer from an inferiority complex in the face of mainstream Science, but science lost its spirit with the copernican revolution and the funny thing is that science has turned into scientism… a belief of its own…

Such a compelling and well-articulated case. I'm personally so put off by all the extremist and debate style "rage bait" content designed to illicit outrage for clicks. We need more voices of reason and reminders like this and understanding that something like Astrology will only resonate for those who are ready to see. I'm reminded of the story of the blindfolded observers (monks?) standing around an elephant, each describing only what they could touch. Each of them was describing a piece of the truth, but not a single one of them could grasp the full form.

Absolutely love this argument!! Will say as a person who menstruates that the moon’s phase absolutely does have an effect on me. There’s so little research done on women’s health that I doubt there’s anything that can back that up, but I know it to be true in my bones.

Vivi's avatar

Yes! Feeling in your bones is a vital part of being human. A scientist can tell me how my body works, but no set of data points can teach me how to listen to my body.

not to be a mansplainer, but thought you might like to know -there are indeed scientific studies that show a significant correlation between women's menstrual cycles and the Moon.

Studies suggest menstruation often occurs near the full or new moon, though in modern times this sync can be intermittent and weakened by artificial light.

Totally note a mansplainer. I love this article — and love it even more when science catches up with what we already know.

Einstein once said God doesn’t play dice with the Universe. And I agree with him. See there is this thing called quantum mechanics and the double slit experiment. Which shows reality isn’t solid until it is observed and then and only then can it be measured. The collapsing of the wave function into a solid particle that doesn’t exist without observation. At tiny scales, the universe behaves probabilistically and that conscious observation plays a role in determining reality. Thus, the Universe / astrology / humanity is only real if you believe it is real. Therefore, astrology is real because we believe it is … ??? Or am I misunderstanding a major theory in physics … Neil? Does Quantum physics prove astrology? Both suggest reality isn’t as fixed and mechanical as we once thought it was back in the 1920s. Physics works at the smallest level and astrology works at the psychological / macro level. Thus, they are same thing essentially just at different scales?? I would be curious as to how Neil would speak to this?

I know you have no desire to debate, but I am all for you taking this up with Neil. And Lord! I hope my writing didn’t offend you.

"Alchemists were intimately involved in their experiments and believed their thoughts and feelings were actual FORCES that could influence the results. It is a view of the power of Consciousness, the crucial relationship between observer and experiment, which some quantum physicists have only recently accepted"

Para-pharase: "Astrology is not pseudo-scientific. Rather, science is pseudo-Hermetic"

And I don’t care to debate anyone on this subject because in my world there is room for both. I am not an either or person. I like being open to the all possibilities …
