The Astrologer in the Psychic Shop
Why I stopped staring at my computer screen and started pulling cards. (Plus: two new ways to work with me this winter.)
Early in my astrology journey, I was hired as the in-house astrologer at a psychic shop.
I was warned that I needed to know tarot because the clientele tended to be skeptical of astrologers. A warning I heard and promptly forgot. Because really, who doesn’t like an astrologer? Specifically, who doesn’t like an astrologer at a psychic shop?
A lot of people, it turns out.
About a month into the gig, I was flailing. Clients were confused when I tried to trace everything back to their “natal promise.” They complained to my boss. Why is she asking so many questions? Why is she staring at her computer the whole time?
They wanted images. Where are the pictures? They wanted clear answers. Is my boyfriend cheating? Yes or no. Will I get the money? Yes or no.
Eventually, the lesson landed. This was a tarot culture. If I wanted to stick around, I needed to learn, fast.
And I did. I hired a mentor. I took classes. I read books between clients. Most importantly, I just started pulling cards.
